How Much Pizza Do You Need for a Party?

Order too little and the pizza is gone before half the room has eaten. Order too much and you are eating it for three days. Here is how to get it right — and which size is actually the best deal, because the answer is not the one most people pick.

The rule of thumb

Plan on about three slices of a large pizza per adult and two per child. That works out to roughly 58 square inches of pizza per adult. For a hungrier crowd — teenagers, a game night, a long afternoon — add one extra pizza for every ten people.

Why the bigger pizza is the better deal

A pizza's size grows with the square of its width, so a few extra inches add a lot of pizza. Our 16-inch XL has 2.6 times the pizza of the 10-inch Personal — for 2.0 times the price. Here is the ladder on a cheese pizza:

Mixing the order

• Split it three ways. For a mixed crowd, roughly a third plain cheese, a third a meat pizza like the pepperoni, and a third something different — BBQ chicken, Hawaiian, or a veggie.
• Everyone can eat everything. Every meat on our menu is halal and there is no pork, so you don't need a separate order for Muslim guests.
